The Role: 


Porter Novelli is seeking a passionate and ambitious candidate to fill the Account Executive/Senior Account Executive role within its Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) practice located in Toronto, Ontario.


The AE/SAE is skilled in traditional media, social media, and digital strategies and has the ability to create and execute an integrated communications plan. The AE/SAE will also have a passion for communications, thrive as part of a creative team, have the confidence and strategic insight to engage with clients, and be inspired to produce great client results.

What You Will Be Doing

The position requires a highly organized, creative self-starter who is extremely client service- and results-oriented and able to work within a very strong and collaborative team culture. Requirements include:

  • Serve as a day-to-day client contact with senior account leader, attend client meetings/status calls, helping to provide client counsel
  • Implement day-to-day tactical activations including media relations campaigns, planning physical or virtual special events and product launches, engaging influencers/content creators for paid content
  • Assist in developing and executing digital/social media programs and content strategies within integrated paid-earned-shared-owned environments for a variety of consumer brands and clients
  • Be accountable for daily project management and client deliverables, and managing critical paths and account activity updates
  • Research and draft media materials, collateral materials, social media content, activity/status reports, etc. in a timely manner as required by senior team and/or clients. Review writing materials and end result work of junior staff members, as applicable
  • Assist with research, vetting, procurement and management of third-party organizations, partners and/or campaign spokespeople (including celebrity talent) on behalf of clients
  • Media/influencer relations including pitching, developing/maintaining strong relationships, generating unique story ideas/pitches, managing earned editorial/coverage for clients, engaging the right influencers at the right time for the right content
  • Support event planning efforts within team including supplier relations, logistics, on-site event management and media relations, etc.
  • Develop/vet media/influencer lists, editorial calendars, etc.
  • Track media coverage, compile coverage reports
  • Familiarity with social monitoring tools along with pulling insights from Instagram and Facebook platforms on organic and paid media campaigns
  • Help and mentor junior staff project output
  • Work with our Quebec-based team to integrate national programs


The Experience That Will Contribute To Your Success

    • Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, digital marketing and/or journalism;
    • 2-4 years of consulting experience at a Canadian agency or equivalent
    • Aptitude for the basics of public relations, media relations, and influencer relations 
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian consumer trends
    • Strong written and verbal skills and confident style in communicating with teammates and colleagues 
    • Solid and confident presentation and interpersonal skills
    • Event management, media tours and related logistics experience
    • High degree of attention to detail in all areas, from performing research to crafting client- and public-facing materials  
    • Proven ability to manage simultaneous projects and meet strict deadlines using strong organizational skills within a fast-paced agency environment
    • Self-motivated, takes initiative and follows through – anticipates account team and client needs 
    • Positive, professional, and flexible attitude  
    • Proficiency in PC usage and the Microsoft suite of tools including Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Familiarity with media and influencer relations software tools such as Cisionpoint, Talkwalker, Muck Rack and Tagger
